Children’s coins and allowances

Give each child a small budget of coins, or an allowance, and what happens when they run out.

Updated Sep 29, 20261 min read

A reader profile can hold its own coins, a small budget inside the family’s account. While a child’s profile is active, their books and their narration are paid from their coins, not yours.

Give and take back

Open Manage Reader Profiles, then Edit on a reader. In the card that shows their coins you can give some, or take some back. Every move is written to a history, so nothing disappears.

Allowances

Set an allowance and coins arrive on their own, weekly or monthly. You can pause it or remove it at any time. If your own balance is too low on the day, the child is told the allowance was short.

When a child runs out

  • The child sees that they need more coins and can choose Ask a grown-up.
  • The request appears in the activity bell on your account. You can allow it and give the coins.
  • A request expires after 24 hours, and a child can have up to three waiting at once.
  • You cannot approve a request while a child profile is active. Switch back to your own profile first.
